The Challenge of File Size Limits in Official Submissions
When uploading ID copies (passports, driver's licenses) or official certificates to government portals, financial portals, or school application pages, you frequently encounter strict file size limits like "Under 300KB" or "Under 500KB".
Since modern smartphones capture photos in very high resolution, a single photo is usually between 3MB and 10MB. This guide explains how to instantly shrink the file to fit the exact limits while maintaining legible details.
Step 1. Crop Unnecessary Borders
When you snap a photo of an ID document, there is usually a lot of useless background space around it. This empty space contributes significantly to the file size.
- Open EasySolve and locate the Image Cropping panel to isolate only the card area.
- For standard ID cards, you can select the 4:3 preset or use the Free ratio to drag borders precisely.
- Check the [Apply] toggle at the top right to crop the image before resizing.
Step 2. Set an Optimal Resolution
Since the text on ID cards must remain legible, downscaling the resolution too much can cause rejection due to blurriness.
- We recommend setting the output width between 1200px and 1600px. This range usually keeps text legible for common on-screen review and printing.
- Ensure the aspect lock icon (padlock) is locked to prevent stretching.
Step 3. Select a Target Size Preset (Key Step)
You don't need to save and check the file size dozens of times by adjusting the compression slider manually.
- Under the [Compression Mode] tab, choose [Target Size].
- Click on the presets: [Gov 300KB] or [Default 500KB] based on the portal requirements.
