How to Safely Redact Personal Data in Images and PDFs

June 19, 2026 · EasySolve Security Team

Solid redaction is safer than pixelation

Small text and numbers may remain inferable after weak pixelation. Use an opaque black redaction for IDs, account numbers, signatures, and other critical details.

Step 1. Open the file

Choose an image or PDF in the Privacy Eraser. Processing happens entirely inside your browser.

Step 2. Drag over sensitive areas

Select black redaction and cover ID numbers, detailed addresses, account numbers, and signatures with enough margin. For PDFs, switch pages with the numbered controls and review the redaction count on each page.

Step 3. Review the result

  • Zoom in and check that no character edges remain visible.
  • Use undo or clear-page controls to correct mistakes.
  • Ensure required names or issuer details remain visible.

Step 4. Save a safe copy

Images are rebuilt as new PNG files. PDFs are flattened into a new PDF, so redaction shapes do not remain as removable objects.

Metadata: GPS, capture date, and camera EXIF details are not copied. Always open and inspect the final file before submitting it.
